Therapy is a gentle commitment to yourself to develop a deeper self awareness, where you can recognise patterns and make kinder, more positive choices for yourself and those around you.
By bringing awareness and understanding to what is causing us pain or problems, we can learn to make choices around how it effects us.
Am I the right therapist for you?
It is important that you feel comfortable with your therapist. This is why we start by exploring whether I am the right person to work with you.
We do this first with a free telephone consultation, which lasts around 20-30 minutes. It gives you the chance to ask me any questions, and for me to ask you some in return.
There is no rush to make this decision or pressure to continue working with me at any point. The priority is that you work with someone you can trust.
If you are happy to move ahead after our initial call, we then book our first face to face session.
I usually recommend trying a few regular sessions to begin with, ideally once a week at the same time of day.
This routine can be helpful during the early stages of therapy, providing some structure and manageability while giving you the chance to open up about what is happening.
How long should
The same way your mental, physical and emotional health doesn't have a 'finish line', my personal view is that therapy needn't either.
On average, after 6 - 8 sessions people feel comfortable enough to fully explore their symptoms, their causes and to begin working on ways to address them.
Your process, however, is your process. It is not to be compared, monitored or rushed.
