Understanding Depression

Depression transcends mere sadness or feeling low; it is a pervasive condition that influences feelings, thoughts, and daily interactions. It can manifest in diverse intensities and forms, deeply impacting one's life. Common signs include:

• An enduring sadness, emptiness, or anxiousness

• Diminished interest in activities once enjoyable

• Somatic symptoms such as chronic fatigue, headaches, blurred vision

• Significant changes in appetite or weight

• Sleep issues, whether too much or too little

• A constant state of lethargy or restlessness

• Feelings of worthlessness or undue guilt

• Difficulty in focusing or making decisions

• Thoughts of death or self-harm

It is crucial to recognise these symptoms as indicators of depression, a condition that is as real and treatable as any physical ailment.

Every person’s experience with depression is unique, and so is your path to overcoming it. As a Psychosynthesis Psychotherapist I tailor a blend of therapies to meet your specific needs:

We begin with establishing a safe space to build a therapeutic alliance through empathy, acceptance and collaboration. With compassion and non-judgemental understanding, we work together to help you identify and explore the underlying causes of the depression. Which may include unconscious unresolved conflicts, self-limiting beliefs, from your history or existential concerns. Using techniques such as guided imagery, visualisation, mindfulness and journaling to help you access your inner wisdom and resources to facilitate a deeper awareness and integrate aspects of yourself that have been outside of your realm of conscious awareness. I also encourage the exploration of your spiritual dimension, fostering a sense of meaning, connection, and purpose. We can develop practical strategies for self-care, including Somatic Awareness, your Relational approach to yourself, lifestyle adjustments, stress management techniques, and social support networks. By addressing the whole person—body, feelings, mind, soul and spirit— Psychosynthesis Psychotherapy empowers you to embark on a journey of Self-Realisation, healing, and personal growth, ultimately transforming your life by moving towards greater resilience, vitality, and happiness.
